Call Me Materialistic

March 29, 2010

Call me materialistic, I don’t care .

There are so many things I need, so many things I want. It’s a good thing though that I can prioritize between want and need. Mom will be so proud :P.

First thing is a computer, preferably a laptop. You would be wondering why have I not posted for so long. I am sure you have been waiting anxiously to read another one of my master-pieces (did I tell I was vain too?). Or am I just delusional. Do make the point clear.

Anyways the reason is, my laptop is from the Stone Age. Quite old, you see (quite – am I kidding, it is ancient :x). And this darling piece of crap refuses to co-operate, because all it wishes is to die. You see it is suffering from terminal illness, and my problem is that I can’t let it go. I know I need to move on, but it is the only thing I have in this whole world. You do understand my dilemma, don’t you?

Second of all, a good phone. ‘Coz the one I am using is from the Ice Age. (This was before the Stone Age, right? My history sucks, but you get the drift). The screen blanks out whenever, it switches off on its own, it gets hanged 23 hours in a day. Now that I think about it, the worst happens whenever I am talking to a friend, you know just mindless talk – say gossip. Maybe mom has a remote or something, trying to refrain me from wasting time. Let me check!

Third one is a camera. It is not an immediate need, but an eventual one. A good camera, for an amateur but also bordering on professional. Can anyone suggest one?

Well these are the major things, which I keep telling my parents about. You will ask why now. Because I AM A STUDENT. I don’t have a well paying job. I do have a job – my CA articleship, but I am paid a stipend, which is measly, just Rs.  – what am I doing? I am not supposed to share this, it is too embarrassing .

So when dad heard about this list, his expression was as if he’ll go bankrupt. Why do parents do that? Didn’t I say it’s a NEED. Well I’ll convince them. I have been trying for over two years now. Just a year to go (Maximum turn around time for my parents is 3 years, though what will you do with that information 😕 ?).

Wow, I am already dreaming. I am armed with an awesome phone, a new bright shiny and superfast laptop, and an awesome camera. Wish me luck, guys!

I would like to thank my cousin N, for letting me borrow her brand new MacBook Pro for this post. I am not jealous at all, I swear. She forced me to dedicate this to her, for using what is her own personal machine (thanks for rubbing it in, but I am still not jealous, I swear ). And I had to do it, lest she may not let me use it again. Kids nowadays, I tell you…

    Stipend not revealed 😆 😆 😆

Waise, it won’t be appropriate to call you materialistic. Everyone who know the importance of these things 😉 (computer, camera and a cell) wants them. 😛 To have desires as ‘basic’ as these aren’t a part of being materialistic, right? 😛

    Pooja

You are not at all materialistic….

These are basic needs i guess 😛

Regarding camera , you need to go out … try latest ones ..click yourself..check the difference and buy it (whenever you get enough money… but it will cost you around 40k )

Well.. your cousin is very lucky..she got Mac book(that is totally awesome)

And yes , you are right .I was waiting anxiously for your new post…and you are back in form 🙂

LOL! You’re being so greedy and jealous, now, Pooja! 😛 Chh, this is bad. To tell you more, I’ve an I-phone ( I hate it, now!), a HP ME Laptop (Which doesn’t feel like ME!), and a Sony Cybershot ( Which I’ve been told is useless for a non-photographer like me, on some unknown basis!) Trust me, even if you would have all this stuff… phew, life wouldn’t have been that simple! 😀

No one will let you use them peacefully. Everyone has his/her own advice(s). Right? 😉

I don’t know anyone in HP/Apple either. But I do know that Apple gives student discounts, in India too.
      Thanks for stopping by.

Well, those are not the materials of rich anymore… infact they are the basic needs. Remember the quote by reliance? – ‘Duniya Mutti me’ 🙂 Here is my recommendation for laptop and camera; Dell Studio and Canon Point and Shoot camera. That should be good enough to start with. You can always switch later on to MacBook Pro and an SLR 🙂
