Rickshaw Fare Hike

June 27, 2010

This is going to pinch, and really hard.

Auto-rickshaw fares were hiked from this Thursday 25th June, 2010 in Mumbai from Rs. 9 to Rs. 11.

That’s quite a leap, isn’t it? And they say this is just an interim raise. The rickshaw union has actually claimed a rise up to Rs. 15.

Obviously, taxis are going to follow suit.

The hike was a result of a flash strike this week by rickshaw drivers. They have a reason too, because the earlier rate was unable to offset the rising cost of CNG.

But won’t it be difficult for the common commuter to burden this rise in rickshaw-fare?

Things are getting messy in the economic sense, the victim being the common man.

It’s competition I tell you – the Delhi-Bombay competition. Delhi autowallahs got a hike by quoting Bombay rick prices; their Bombay counterparts got it by citing the Delhi raise. It’s a vicious and endless cycle designed to consign the common man (or woman) in you to roam this planet on foot – till eternity.
