Indian Ocean Memorial Concert
Indian Ocean is an Indo-Rock fusion band, one of first in India, and by far the best.
And I had the opportunity to see them live in concert. Ain’t I lucky ;)?
It was a Memorial Concert, held in the memory of their late band member Asheem Chakravarty. Staged at Bandra Fort out in the open with at-the-moment-wonderful Mumbai climate and a occassional chilly sea breeze, I couldn’t have asked for a better set up. The organization was perfect, the crowd was rocking, and the music mind-blowing. It was one of my best Friday nights in a long time.
And it was well deserved, for I had gone to the ends of the earth literally, to some nook and cranny of Mumbai to obtain the passes. But who’s complaining, the night absolutely made up for my frustration that day.
The moment the show started it promised to be as amazing as I had envisioned it to be.
In the nearly two-hour gig, the band performed some of their greatest hits from all their albums including their latest 16/330 Khajoor Road. The show opened with ‘Bula Raha’ from this new album and a differently showcased ‘Nam Myo Ho’ from another album- Jhini.
Shrikanth Sriram joined the band with his magical flute on the song ‘Maa Rewa’ and a jugalbandi ensued with the members.
It was undoubtedly a memorable evening, and words cannot justify it (not that I am feeling too lazy or anything, in case that is what you are thinking because of my prolonged absence from the blog :P). However, I am going to say this much- check out the band’s website for their next concert (and also my photoblog for another shot). It is something you shouldn’t miss.
Anyways that’s it for now. Ciao!
