New-mismatics

June 27, 2010

I am not a coin collector, though I do get fascinated with coins. Whenever new coins are issued I go out-of-the-way to collect as many as I can (now, don’t get ideas as to my profession :P).

Recently the Reserve Bank of India has brought into circulation 10 Rupee coins. Now that’s a first ;)!

It is a bimetallic coin, the outer side being nickel-bronze and the inner circle is made of steel.

"10 Rupee Coins"

The obverse side has the lion capitol and  denomination mentioned. The reverse side has an etching of Homi Bhabha, the famous Indian Nuclear physicist, and reads “Homi Bhabha Birth Centenary Year” in his honour. It also has the year of manufacture i.e. 2008-2009 stamped on this side.

Pretty cool, huh! Now this one’s going to remain in my wallet for a long time :D.

It’s not the first time a 10 rupee coin was issued… I have an old ten rupee coin that dates back to 1950’s

I am still waiting to get my hands on this one! And speaking of numismatics, I have quite a collection of old coins from various countries, although I did inherit most of it 😛

I have about 6 Rs. 10 coins and I refuse to give them to anyone. Methinks I will keep it and pass it on to my future generation. Who knows in 1000 years from now they might be considered under antiques and fetch exhorbitant prices.
I plan for the future. 😛
